Power Supply Hack

Modified Power Supply

If you're doing alot of projects, you're going to need a way to power them. If you don't have some kind of adjustable power supply or a bunch of batteries then this hack will definitely come in handy.

All regular ATX power supplies have 3.3 volt, 5 volt and 12 volt rails (orange, red and yellow respectively. However, just because the power supply is plugged in doesn't mean it's going to supply power to anything. The key is pin 16 which is the "Power on" switch. It's the only green wire in the 20 or 24 pin connector. Basically all you need to do to turn the power supply on is short this wire. This can be done by taking a paperclip and putting it to one of the black wires next to it or by putting in a switch like I did. Most people that mess around with computers or electronics enough already know this, but just in case you didn't, you do now.
